Turn down the volume of the chatter of the mind. Turn up your own song.       –Anonymous

Namaste. Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice, dating back over 5000 years. In the West, it is becoming increasingly popular as a form of exercise that also allows for stress reduction and an increasingly more positive outlook on life. Whether you are brand new to yoga, or have been practicing for years, I can meet you where you are to help guide your practice even deeper.

Yoga was my first love. I discovered it when a friend asked me to come to a class with her while studying abroad in Orebro, Sweden, in 2001. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was taken to an Ashtanga Yoga Master teacher and the practice that she taught me would forever change my path in life. I was immediately hooked by the physical and, as I would learn, spiritual aspect, of the demanding practice. I continued Ashtanga yoga when I came back to the States, and as my practice deepened, I had a desire to go to the source, Mysore, India, to study with the late guru of Ashtanga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. In the Fall of 2004, I traveled to the famed Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. I spent two months in India and have dreamed of going back ever since I left. It was a magical experience, beyond words, and I am forever grateful for the teachings I learned while there. Upon returning to the States, I wanted to continue my practice with an Ashtanga Master Teacher, so I moved to Encinitas, California, to study with one of Pattabhi Jois’s oldest student’s, Tim Miller, of Ashtanga Yoga Center in Carlsbad, California. I loved living by the sea and studying and practicing yoga with such an inspiring and wise teacher.  After eventually moving back east to be closer to family and my love, Mark, I became a registered yoga teacher in the Spring of 2006, in a beautiful ashram in the rural mountains outside Boulder, Colorado, at Shoshoni School of Yoga.

Today my classes are a mix of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, and my own personal practice. I enjoy teaching private classes in the Loudoun County and Northern Virginia area. Years ago I found a local yoga home at Beloved Yoga of Reston and Great Falls, Virginia. I have been teaching there for over five years and am honored to be a part of their teaching staff.

I am forever grateful for yoga showing me a different path to my life, for teaching me to follow my heart and not the chatter in my mind, for trusting my wanderlust for travel, and for ultimately creating enough clarity for me to realize my life’s passion, working with women in the childbearing years. I now also teach prenatal yoga, which I consider the greatest blessing, combining my love of yoga, with mommies, during such an extraordinary time in their lives.

One of my favorite things to do these days is watch my own children try to imitate Mommy, and find their own creative yoga poses! I encourage you to invite yoga in your life, you will not be disappointed!
